Offensive Resurgence powers sox past pirates
The White Sox returned to action Tuesday year to get back on the right track, but without the services of first baseman Paul Konerko. Javier Vasquez was on the mound and he continued his string of slow starts allowing five runs over six plus innings. The White Sox started off the scoring in the first inning with two runs after Pirates starting pitcher Ian Snell walked the bases loaded. Jermaine dye hit a double into the left-field scoring AJ Piersynski and Carlos Quentin as the White Sox took the lead 2 — 0. After a 1 2 3 inning in the first, Vasquez struggled to get people out in the second. Vasquez struggled with his command, giving up a leadoff walk before surrendering four straight hits and a sacrifice fly during a four-run second inning. However, other than the second inning Vasquez pitched well enough to win on a night where the offense exploded. The lead changed hands a few times until Joe Crede gave the White Sox to lead on an RBI double to left field. Alexi Ramirez knocked Crede in with an RBI single, his second of the game. The White Sox however we’re not done yet. Jermaine Dye, Orlando Cabrera, Joe Crede, and Jim Thome all homered in the game as the White Sox cruised to a 16 — 5 blowout victory over the Pirates.
